Ram’s horn gall wasp (Andricus aries) belongs to the gall wasps. The ram’s horn gall wasp is native to southeastern Europe. Meanwhile, the species also occurs in temperate regions of Europe; the first ram’s horn gall wasp was spotted in the Netherlands in 2003.
Galls of the ram’s horn gall wasp are rare; when found, they are mainly on young oaks or very old ones in dry sheltered places. In late summer, early September, the + 2.2 mm gall wasps hatch. Then the gall turns from light green to brown, leaving a relatively large exit hole.
