Orange-red green algae (Trentepohlia umbrina) is a filamentous green algae in the algae family Trentepohliaceae. The algae live on tree trunks and rocks. The striking orange color is caused by large amounts of carotenoid pigments, dyes similar to those found in carrots. Often green algae combine with fungi in lichens.
Orange-red green algae is a subtropical species now increasingly common in temperate regions.
