Linden gall mite, a minute mite that induces the leaf of the lime tree to form elongated, cone-shaped galls (+5 mm).
Linden gall mite (Eriophyes tiliae). This minute mite (0.2 mm) induces the leaf of the linden to form elongated, cone-shaped galls that are about 5 mm long.
Initially, the galls are yellow-green to later turn to red. The galls usually form on the leaves in the lower layers of the tree.
The mites hibernate in the bark of the lime tree.
Lime trees are not much bothered by the mites; with a lot of galls on the leaf, malformation of the leaves can occur.
