Holly aphid (Aphis Ilicis). These black aphids live on the holly leaf and feed on the sap of the holly leaves. Sucking up plant juices causes the leaves to curl. Often the groups of aphids include ants, which “milk” the aphids for their honeydew.

Control
Control with pyrethrum, Insecticidal soap, soapy water spray, rhubarb spray or nettle spray.
Control aphids with the larvae of ladybird (Adalia).
Prevention
Natural enemies include: birds, ladybirds, earwigs, parasitoid wasps and lacewings.
