They are common in Europe and are often found in warm places in the sun. They live off plant juices and dead insects. They are also found around pruning wounds of trees where they feed on the wound sap. They prefer lime trees, Robinia pseudoacacia and mallow.
Birds are the firebug’s natural enemies.
