Birch polypore

The birch polypore is a fungus that grows on birch trees.

Birch polypore (Piptoporus betulinus) is a fungus that grows on birches.
The fungus grows on both living and dead wood.
The birch polypore is found almost exclusively on birch trees in forests and on birch trees that are in swamps and shady areas.
On the birch polypore you can often find a little beetle: the handsome fungus beetle (Mycetophagus multipunctatus). This beetle lives off the tough flesh of the fungus.

After infestation by the fungus, it is not possible to remove the fungus; the tree will eventually die.
