Birch catkin bug

The birch catkin bug belongs to the seed bugs and lives primarily on birch.

Birch catkin bug (Kleidocerys resedae) belongs to the seed bugs (Lygaeidae) and lives primarily on birch. The bug measures + 5 mm and is red to light brown.
The bugs are also sometimes found on alders and mountain-ash. The bugs overwinter in wood crevices and under the bark. They live on seeds and the occasional stray insect.
